Why SunBru Exists

I was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

That has a way of sharpening your thinking. You stop chasing noise and start focusing on what’s useful, what’s honest, and what’s worth building.

At the same time, I was looking at solar — professionally and personally — and saw the same problems come up again and again:

  • Conflicting quotes
  • Over-optimistic claims
  • Advice written for somewhere sunnier
  • Sales pressure instead of clarity

Solar wasn’t the issue.
How it was being sold and explained was.

Built by a Renewable Expert — On Purpose

I’ve spent years working in renewables. I understand:

  • How solar systems actually perform
  • Where the savings really come from
  • How design choices affect outcomes
  • Where installers add value — and where they don’t

SunBru is the tool I wish existed earlier:
an independent, honest comparison platform that lets people see their options clearly — without being pushed in any direction.

No installer bias.
No miracle numbers.
No pretending one system suits everyone.

What SunBru Does (And What It Doesn’t)

SunBru helps people:

  • Understand whether solar makes sense for their home
  • Compare realistic system options
  • See trade-offs clearly before spending serious money

We don’t install solar.
We don’t sell leads to the highest bidder.
And we’re comfortable saying “this probably isn’t worth it” when that’s the right answer.

That honesty protects homeowners — and respects good installers.

Built for Scotland, Because Context Matters

Scotland has:

  • Older housing stock
  • Shared buildings and tenements
  • Rural grid constraints
  • Long winters and short days

Advice that ignores that context causes bad decisions.

Everything on SunBru is written and designed around Scottish reality, not generic UK averages or southern assumptions.

Why I Built It This Way

SunBru is how I work now.

I get to apply my renewable expertise to something genuinely useful, and I get to build it alongside my sons — every day.

That keeps the priorities straight:

  • Accuracy over hype
  • Long-term thinking over quick wins
  • Trust over volume

The Bottom Line

SunBru exists to make renewable decisions clearer, calmer, and more honest.

It’s built by someone who understands the technology, respects the numbers, and knows that not every home — or every person — needs the same solution.

If you want hype, we’re not for you.
If you want guidance you can trust, you are.
